Belief

By Gilbert Griffiths

Neuroscientists can now use advanced equipment to see and measure your thoughts, which are real biological, electrochemical impulses within the brain. If you understand how the brain works, you can learn to control your thinking. If you can control your thinking, you can control your behaviour . Your behaviour affects your ability to achieve what you want out of life.

Your attitudes about everything that affects you are created, controlled and influenced by your beliefs. What you believe about anything will determine your attitudes. Your attitudes create your feelings which direct your behaviour.

During their studies, scientists discovered that they could see brain neurons (brain nerve cells) firing in response to stimuli created by thought processes. They found that belief neurons were very powerful, so powerful in fact, that they can make something appear to be something that it isn’t. Belief does not require things to be factually true, it only requires us to believe that they are.

If we believe that we are NOT going to be successful at something we are going to try, then we will NOT be successful. However, if we believe that we WILL be successful, then we WILL be.

A good example of belief was demonstrated by Roger Bannister in 1954. Up to that point, it was believed, by everyone, that the human body was not capable of running one mile in under four minutes. Bannister believed, because of the faith he had in his training, that he could run one mile in under four minutes.

When he broke the four minute barrier in 1954, belief about the feat changed and within 46 days someone beat his sub four minute record. Since then hundreds of people have done it.

Where do beliefs come from? They come from your thoughts. The thoughts that fire the most neurons, are relied on the most to create your beliefs. Every thought that enters your brain, whether from an outside source or from yourself, is stored as a neuron pattern in your brain. These neuron pattern firings, or thoughts, create your beliefs. If you learn to control your thoughts, you will learn to control your behaviour.

The beauty of your brain is that it doesn’t matter how old your are, your brain will grow and add new neurons if you stimulate it with new things. So try something new. Take a course, change your thoughts, try positive affirmations or subliminal messages. Your brain will create new neuron paths for each of these new things. Now, here is the most interesting thing. If you repeat your positive affirmations enough, the same neuron patterns will fire over and over, creating a “worn path” in that area of your brain. Because of this, your thoughts will be more concentrated on these paths which will affect your beliefs which in turn will affect your behaviour patterns. As I said before, your behaviour affects your ability to achieve what you want out of life. So, change your behaviour and change your life.

Faith is created by your beliefs. It is the second step toward riches. If you have faith in your capabilities, then you will convince your mind that your can accomplish what you are trying to do. Your mind will then come up with a plan to assist you in your endeavours.

If you feel that your belief system is not as firm as you would like it to be, these five steps will change your belief system for the better.

1. Prepare to win at everything you attempt. If you passionately prepare yourself for the task you are attempting, your knowledge of your preparation will give strength to your belief system so that you will have no doubt that you can achieve your goal.

2. Take control of your thoughts. You choose what you think. If you choose to think that you will be successful and that your preparation has been thorough, then that is what you will get. Many scientific studies have proven that your thoughts control your outcome. To assist you in keeping positive thoughts in your mind, use positive affirmations.

3. Monitor your situation so that you can determine if everything is the same or if something has changed. Constant monitoring and reevaluation will keep your belief strong because you will know that everything is under control.

4. Don’t worry about how to do it. All the experts insist that if you believe you can do it that your mind will find a way to accomplish it.

This Intel is a perfect example. I knew that I wanted to write something about a person's beliefs and I firmly believed that I could. I picked up a pen and a pad of foolscap paper and the ideas and the words just started to flow. I just keep writing as long as they come. When they stop, I take a break and a short while later it starts all over again. Sure, every so often I have to stop to check the correctness of my information, but other than that, I just let my thoughts create what I write. If I can do it, anyone can. So start believing in yourself.

5.You must act. Nothing starts until you do. Until you act, you’re not committed and your belief is not cemented into place.

Start implementing your dreams and desires and your goals will be reached. As John McDonald wrote in The Message of a Master, “The cause of confusion prevailing in your mind that weakens your thoughts is the false belief that there is a power or powers outside you greater than the power within you.”

Now that is a thought worth reading again!

Sounds like some equipment that would come in handy at airport screening.

I'm not sure I want somebody seeing my thoughts.

Comeon Franklyn, they can't be that bad.

As for airport screening, I may get in trouble for this reply, but all airports in the USA are equipped with cameras that connect to computers running a facial recognition program written by the CIA. If someone that has been entered on the watch list or the no fly list walks into an airport, alarms ring in the security office and the camera that detected the individual locks on him or her and then passes control to the next camera nearest the individual. Where the system breaks down, is the manual entry of the pictures of the subject in question. If no one gets around to putting the suspects picture into the computer system which updates all the systems in the airports, then the person does not get detected. Like most government workers, those responsible for entering the pictures aren't too energetic, so there could be quite a delay in getting the picture onto the central system. And of course if the person who has the picture in their in basket goes on holidays, it just sits there...very seldom does anyone look in another employees in basket to see if there is something that should be done.

Nice job Gilbert. I would just simply inject God into the equation as a positive "outside force".

Thank you very much James. I thought that God created us in his image. If so, then we should be able to do all that he can do. Since we only use about 10 percent of our brain power, just think what we could do if we used 100 percent of it. I think that our relationship with God should give us his power, force and teachings as an internal power, not an external power.

Believe, with mind, body and soul to achieve. Thank You for sharing this thought
